At Argus AI, in addition to our consulting activities, we engage in artificial intelligence research, with a focus on AI security. The research approach is practice-oriented due to the consulting background, but great emphasis is placed on a solid foundation for our advisory activities. The goal is to both abstract and scientifically process insights from practice and integrate existing research findings into projects.
A crucial yet under-researched area in AI to date, is the interface between the technical capabilities of AI-based systems and their actual application. Experience shows that many AI initiatives struggle to progress beyond the prototype stage because implementation into existing business processes often fails. This issue is rarely due to technical execution problems; rather, it’s about integrating the technology into the organization and its processes—a seemingly obvious but practically challenging issue.
This is especially pertinent in the field of AI security, where the technical nature of AI systems and their virtually limitless applications introduce new challenges that extend beyond traditional cybersecurity requirements. It is essential to consider technical aspects within the context of their application and to include the human component in these considerations. AI systems now perform tasks that were previously the sole domain of humans, such as driving vehicles, processing information, recognizing patterns in large datasets, or predicting future events. It is crucial that these systems reliably deliver contextually accurate results. This requirement highlights that sources of error must not only be viewed from a technical perspective but must also include the application context and the user. Ultimately, AI security is about AI systems reliably fulfilling their desired task.
For this reason, Argus-AI highly values the triad of technology, application, and user. We are currently preparing papers for two international AI research conferences, aiming to share our knowledge with the community and gather insights from peer reviews and discussions with other researchers. Stay tuned for an update on the journey!
